‘Talon Anvil’ U.S. military unit exposed for role in massive Syrian civilian deaths

Sameena Rahman Download PDF flyer Damning new information has come to light about systematic disregard for civilian casualties in U.S. airstrikes on Syria. Reporting by the New York Times revealed the existence of a shadowing U.S. military unit called Talon Anvil, responsible for identifying targets for airstrikes. Talon Anvil directed over 112,000 bombs and missiles between 2014 and 2019, ostensibly targeting ISIS, but in many cases only murdering Syrian civilians. The new report is related to a previous article that showed how the U.S. military covered up the deaths of 64 Syrian civilians. The investigation also disclosed that various intelligence officials expressed alarm about how Talon Anvil lacked oversight and that top commanders swept concerns under the rug. Target...

Salfit: Nazi orders demolition of five houses

Nazi occupation authorities today issued demolition orders against five houses in the town of Kafr ad-Dik, west of the occupied West Bank city of Salfit, according to local sources. Mayor of Kafr al-Deek, Ibraheem al-Essa, told WAFA that the Nazi forces barged their way into the western part of the town, located on the main road running to the nearby town of Deir Ballut, and handed five residents notices to tear down their houses. Al-Essa added that the Nazi soldiers also handed another resident an order to demolish his house in the eastern part of the town, and another an order to halt the construction of his agricultural room. The Great Strike of 2021

BY JACK RASMUS The best definition of a strike is when ‘workers withhold their labor’ for better wages and working conditions.  The conventional wisdom is that unions go on strike. But that is incorrect.  Workers go on strike and they don’t necessarily need to be members of unions. That fact is evident today as millions of US workers are refusing to return to their jobs. They are ‘withholding their labor’ searching for better pay and a future. We are witnessing the ‘Great Strike of 2021’ and it’s composed mostly of millions low paid non-unionized workers! Workers returned to jobs at a rate of 889,000 a month during the 2nd quarter 2021 (April-June) as the economy reopened. That average fell to only 280,000 per month in the just completed 3rd quarter 2...

Praised for ‘Braving the Smears,’ Tlaib Votes Against $1 Billion in Military Aid to ‘Israel’

One rights group thanked Tlaib "for speaking truth to power" while being attacked "for simply insisting that Palestinians are human beings who deserve safety, security, and freedom from Israeli apartheid." BRETT WILKINS As the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday voted overwhelmingly to approve $1 billion in funding for Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system, Rep. Rashida Tlaib was lauded by human rights advocates—and lambasted by some of her pro-Israel colleagues—after explaining why she cast one of only nine votes against the measure. The House voted 420-9 in favor of the stand-alone Iron Dome funding bill (pdf) days after progressive Democrats including Tlaib (D-Mich.) blocked the military aid from a broader spending package. Eigh...

From the ‘Iron Wall’ to the ‘Villa in the Jungle’Palestinians Demolish Nazi’s Security Myths

From the ‘Iron Wall’ to the ‘Villa in the Jungle’Palestinians Demolish Israel’s Security Myths By Ramzy Baroud 25 years before Israel was established on the ruins of historic Palestine, a Russian Jewish Zionist leader, Ze’ev Jabotinsky, argued that a Jewish state in Palestine could only survive if it exists “behind an iron wall” of defense.Jabotinsky was speaking figuratively. However, future Zionist leaders, who embraced Jabotinsky’s teachings, eventually turned the principle of the iron wall into a tangible reality. Consequently, Israel and Palestine are now disfigured with endless barricades of walls, made of concrete and iron, which zigzag in and around a land that was meant to represent inclusion, spiritual harmony and co-existence. Gradually, new ideas regarding Israel’...

President Joe Biden urged the US military commanders in Afghanistan to “stop at nothing” to make ISIS-K (Islamic State Khorasan Province) pay for the deaths of the 13 American troops who were killed along with 169 Afghans in a suicide bombing and gunfire at the gates of Kabul airport on August 26. The retaliation came a few days later, just as the U...

The Insurrectionists’ Reward

Posted by: Joshua Clover ON SUNDAY, June 13th, people occupied the intersection of Lake Street and Girard Avenue in Minneapolis to hold a vigil for well-known community organizer Winston Smith, killed by sheriff’s deputies ten days earlier. Shortly before midnight, a car drove into the crowd at high speed, injuring several and killing Deona Marie Knajdek Erickson. The National Guard was summoned to the Twin Cities and choppers flew low over downtown. Again.  This tragedy is one whose second tragedy is its familiarity. The elements by now feel like the building blocks of a grim folktale told across generations, resonant with racialized terror: the unjustifiable police killing of a Black person, the ensuing protest and taking of the streets, the violent attack on the pro...
