This anniversary is of exceptional interest to the entire world, but above all to those who have found in his words and his works the sure guide to the building of the new world, the World of Tomorrow. In the United States, the mercenary press carries on an unprecedented campaign of calumny against Stalin, as their particular contribution to this anniversa...

Morgan Freeman Explains What’s Wrong With Black History Month 'VIDEO'

NOVANEWS Matt Agorist  In a past interview with Mike Wallace of 60 Minutes, Morgan Freeman dropped a bombshell that sent ripples through the race-focused crowd everywhere. As Wallace attempted to paint him as a radical for his views, in only a few brief moments, Morgan Freeman laid waste to stereotypes, and worked wonders for bridging the racial divide in America. NOVANEWS Benedict Anderson (1936–2015) was the Aaron L. Binenkorb Professor Emeritus of International Studies, Government and Asian Studies at Cornell University, New York. He passed away in Indonesia on December 13th 2015 at the age of 79. He will be remembered long and well for his contribution to the study of nationalism, which had its impact in several disciplines within the humanities and social sciences. A polyglot, his most well-known work, Imagined Communities: Reflections on the Origin and Spread of Nationalism, first published in 1983 was to prove to be one of the most thought-provoking books in the study of nationalism for decades to come. In this work he argued for the nation as an “imagined political community” that came into being through an interplay between capitalism and t...

History: Shia Islam

NOVANEWS Posted by: Sammi Ibrahem,Sr   "Shia" and "Shias" redirect here. For other uses, see Shia (disambiguation). Shia (/ˈʃiːə/; Arabic: شيعة‎ Shīʿah), an abbreviation of Shīʻatu ʻAlī (شيعة علي, "followers of Ali"), is a branch of Islam which holds that the Islamic prophet Muhammad's proper successor as Caliph was his son-in-law and cousin Ali ibn Abi Talib. Shia Islam primarily contrasts with Sunni Islam, whose adherents believe that Muhammad's father-in-law Abu Bakr, not Ali ibn Abi Talib, was his proper successor.[1][2] Adherents of Shia Islam are called Shias or the Shi'a as a collective or Shi'i individually.[3] Shia Islam is the second-largest branch of Islam: in 2009, Shia Muslims constituted 10–13% of the world's Muslim population.[4] Twelver Shia(Ithnā'ashariyyah) is th...

EVERYODY'S DREAM

NOVANEWS In memoriam of Dr. Martin Luther King Teresinka Pereira   May the irascible supremacists recognize the mud in which they drown themselves with their incompetence.   May the pseudo-democrats notice that heaven flames up with their hypocrite fights.   May the cowards look around the tombs and see the prints of their fingers that without pulling the trigger have killed so many human beings in useless wars caused by their ambition and unlimited greed.   The wish for peace could have taken shelter in all of their conflicts, if we could ever ask the irascible, the hypocrites, the cowards: What is your dream?

All Alone: US Tortures Children for ‘Excessive’ Number of Books

NOVANEWS Sputnik Despite a recent trend in the US to decrease the use of solitary confinement as a punishment for children, Nebraska, a state of almost 2 million people, considers the method appropriate and has applied it broadly. Solitary confinement, as a form of torture, has been practiced in the US since the early 19th century but was later halted nationwide after reported negative psychological effects on children. Human rights activists expressed concern over the trend as the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, Juan Mendez, said in 2011 that “even 15 days in solitary confinement constitutes torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, and 15 days is the limit after which irreversible harmful psychological effects can occur.” Mendez, the Argentinian human rights advo...

Past and Present Islamist, Democratic and Nazi International Brigades

NOVANEWS By Prof. James Petras Global Research The Islamic State (IS) has become a magnet for international brigades, drawing over 30,000 fighters from 5 continents and 86 countries to their war in Iraq and Syria. While the international brigades are part of a global movement, most of the volunteers come from two-dozen countries, mainly in the Middle East, Maghreb, Western Europe, Russia and Central Asia. Most Islamist internationalists are paid a salary to fight and engage in police functions within IS-occupied regions. This essay will identify the principle sources of recruitment of Islamist internationalists and the reasons underlying their commitment.  We will also contrast and compare IS internationalists to the earlier international brigades fighting for the Spanish Republic ...

NEW YEAR, 2016

NOVANEWS Teresinka Pereira   It is important to perform cheerfully the ritual passage from one year to the next. Reveillon does not bring any mystery, and is not an invasion of our lives with something unknown. The future we have made and will go on making according to the courage with which we invest the time and aspiration of giving to ourselves and to the people we love, understanding, and an opportunity to feel productive and of service to humanity causes. May 2016 be very generous with good deeds, love, and recognition to you!

Parents call the cops on teens distributing a banned book

NOVANEWS By Michael Kozlowski Around two weeks ago parents in the Idaho school district of Meridian successfully campaigned to remove a novel from its 10th grade reading curriculum . The book was entitled The Absolutely True Diary and it won a A National Book Award.  It tells the tale of a Native American teenager who decides to attend an all-white high school outside of his reservation and has themes such as making sense of race, and sexual discovery. Students who were utterly fed up with a few parents who had a problem with the book decided to take action.  The teens started a petition to have the book reinstated. They collected an impressive 350 signatures, but the school remained firm. A local indie bookstore heard about the students plight and started a crowdfunding campaign to bu...
