UK Jewish Students and Youth Movement Oppose “Unilateral Annexation of West Bank”

Staying silent will raise 'serious questions regarding the relevance of the Board' By Lee Harpin More than 500 UK Jewish students and youth movement members have put their names to a letter urging the Board of Deputies to speak out against what they claim are the Israeli government’s plans for the ‘’unilateral annexation of the West Bank”.’ The letter, sent to the Board’s honorary officers, warns that the organisation’s historical support for a negotiated two-state solution with the Palestinians will be ‘’impossible to achieve’’ if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu goes ahead with the proposed annexation of a portion of the West Bank. It goes on that the Board’s ‘’relevance’’ to the younger generation will be questioned if it does not speak out. Among&nbs...

Two Truths from the Pandemic No One Is Mentioning

by KIRKPATRICK SALE Two truths at least are certain in this post-pandemic world: 1) Humans have so dominated the world, destroying much of non-human life and systems in the process, that the world has struck back in recoil and seeks to readjust the balance.2) Human sustenance systems are far too large and unwieldly to be effective and the smaller the system or operation the more efficient, useful, friendly, or supportive. The first truth is of course the one that the current organizers of the world, the ones who have brought this crisis upon us, do not want to believe.  To believe that, they would have to acknowledge that the global-liberal-capitalist-guided environment they have worked centuries—or, to be more precise, 75 years—to create has so damaged the environment t...

When “Fake News” Was Banned

An America Trump Might Have LovedBy Adam HochschildEvery month, it seems, brings a new act in the Trump administration’s war on the media. In January, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo exploded at National Public Radio reporter Mary Louise Kelly when he didn’t like questions she asked -- and then banned a colleague of hers from the plane on which he was leaving for a trip to Europe and Asia. In February, the Trump staff booted a Bloomberg News reporter out of an Iowa election campaign event. The president has repeatedly called the press an “enemy of the people” -- the very phrase that, in Russian (vrag naroda),was applied by Joseph Stalin’s prosecutors to the millions of people they sent to the gulag or to execution chambers. In that context, Trump’s term for BuzzFeed, a “failing pile of ...

Project Corbyn has failed: what next?

Can the Workers party become the new home that workers in Britain so desperately need? By: Ranjeet Brar https://youtu.be/-6vqbk0bwTg In this short video, leading communist Dr Ranjeet Brar speaks to the launch meeting of the Workers Party of Britain (WPB) in Birmingham on 1 February 2020. Ranjeet explains how the Brexit vote was one in the eye for the British establishment, the overwhelming majority of whom had instructed workers to vote remain. Meanwhile, Boris John...

Coronavirus Crisis Makes Clear Pentagon Should Get No More Money This Year for Its ‘Wasteful War Machine’: 60+ Groups

"We cannot continue spending billions of dollars on weapons of war while people across the country struggle to buy food, pay rent, and survive a pandemic." byAndrea Germanos,  A letter sent Wednesday to the congressional leaders urged them to focus on "the national pandemic response and economic relief for people across the United States rather than providing more money for the Pentagon's already overflowing coffers." (Photo: Shutterstock) Not a dime of additional funding should be appropriated this year to the Pentagon's already bloated budget, which has enabled endless war while resources that could have helped the nation better respond to the coronavirus crisis have gone "chronically underfunded." That's the message of a letter (pdf) to congressional lea...

Supreme court ruling overturns ‘Israel’ boycott ban – for now

What can workers do to stop this advance from being rolled back by Parliament? Proletarian writers Back in 2005, in response to Palestinian calls for the international community to withdraw support from the Israeli apartheid state, a global campaign of boycott was initiated that aimed to boycott, divest and sanction (BDS) the zionist regime into compliance with international law. The BDS movement chalked up some notable successes around the world, getting sufficiently under the zionist skin for the Israeli government in Tel Aviv to embark on a PR campaign of slander and disinformation aimed at delegitimising all support for the Palestinian cause and prohibiting the practice of boycott. This black propaganda found sympathetic support in the imperialist c...

Reading ‘How Fascism Works’ In Modi-ruled India

Posted by: Sammi Ibrahem,Sr WE know that fascism differs from totalitarian dictatorship in that fascism is a movement, enjoying the support and participation of a significant section of people. How Fascism Works: The Politics of Us and Them, a 2018 book by Professor Jason Stanley, deftly identifies ten key methods used by fascist politicians to achieve such support. Rich with examples  from history as well as contemporary world politics, this book helps us analyse India’s contemporary reality. Reading this book, we can easily see how Modi’s regime takes many a leaf from the fascist copybook. Liberation will summarise the ten features of fascist politics identified in this book, with brief notes on how the Modi regime and the RSS and BJP politics tick those ten boxes....

Corbyn, the Hindu far-right and Israel’s partisans

This article was written just before the UK elections. While it did not predict a Tory landslide, it did indicate, correctly, that the BJP’s campaign for Johnson was not likely to have much impact in Harrow, Brent North , Southall and in Leicester East  which are key areas with Gujarati populations. In each case, MPs from the same party as before were returned. However the Leicester East election where ex-Labour MP Keith Vaz’s seat was being contested was a remarkable struggle. (Vaz had been forced to resign to avoid suspension, not for his notorious corruption, but for having purchased cocaine from sex workers). Corbyn ally, Claudia Webbe, a black woman whose family live in the area,  won despite a  vicious and well-funded campaign of lies and anti-Black racism against her by Bhu...
