Great Britain’s 100 year war on the Arab world

Posted by: John Phoenix Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair at the World Economic Forum in 2008. (Photo: World Economic Forum/Wikimedia Commons) In the first decade of this century, amidst the flames of the “War on Terror” which had engulfed Afghanistan and Iraq, the late president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, made a private visit to London to meet Ken Livingstone, the mayor. Two days earlier British Prime Minister Tony Blair had lectured and rebuked Chavez and Bolivian President Evo Morales on the need to use the resources of his oil rich country “responsibly.” Responsibility is the act of being responsible and the Oxford English Dictionary defines “responsible” as “having an obligation to do something, or having control over or care for someone.”[1] On the other hand, what B...

Historical whitewash: Great Britain must be held accountable for its role in the Nakba

Posted by: John Phoenix UK Prime Minister David Cameron addresses the Knesset (Photo: Knesset spokesperson/Times of Israel) Nothing more exemplifies the historical whitewash of British rule in Palestine between 1917 and 1948 than the response (or lack of) to David Cameron’s speech in the Israeli Kneeset in March 2014. Therein he briefly propounded the much overlooked fact that Britain was the main western supporter of the Zionist colonial experiment in Palestine from the very beginning. “From the early pioneers,” boasted Cameron, “the men and women of the Palestine Exploration Fund, who saw the Jewish history in this land and the possibilities for the future to the Balfour Declaration – the moment when the State of Israel went from a dream to a plan Britain has played a...

Obituary – Anne Scargill

Posted by: John Phoenix On April 10, 2025, The British proletariat lost another fighter for its cause, Anne Scargill passed away at the age of 83. Although her maiden name was Harper, which she had reverted to in 1998, to most who knew her she was still Scargill even after she and ex-National Union of Mineworkers, president, Arthur Scargill, had split up. Anne was pretty well-known around Barnsley, but she sprang to national (and international) prominence in the 1984-85 miners’ strike. Anne and a group of like-minded women launched a campaign to save the mining industry. This idea spread rapidly in spite of a few objections from miners who didn’t really want their wives and girlfriends on picket lines etc. (these objections became very muted after the NUM Executive Committee ga...

Lineker – the price of speaking out

Posted by: John Phoenix Gary Lineker is a man synonymous with English football. Having played at the very highest level, he began his career before the advent of the Premier League with Leicester City in the old First Division. His footballing journey saw him rise to become a star striker and captain of the national team and even ply his talents at the dizzying heights of club football with Spanish giants Barcelona, finally retiring in 1994 after a spell in Japanese football. Even with such a distinguished playing career, Lineker has become a household name as a sports pundit, having hosted Match of the Day for over 25 years, taking over from another iconic presenter, Des Lynam, whom older fans will recall better. It’s a testament to Lineker’s ability as a broadcas...

Birmingham bin workers smelling rats

Posted by: John Phoenix At 0600hrs on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 refuse workers employed by Birmingham City Council began an all-out strike. The strike, which is still ongoing at the time of writing this article, is the latest in a series of actions that have taken place in Birmingham since the beginning of the year. The origins of this dispute, which is growing increasingly bitter, can be traced all the way back to 2010, but it came to a head in September 2023, when Birmingham City Council issued a Section 114 notice. This notice, issued under Section 114 of the 1988 Local Government Act, declared the Council’s insolvency and amounted to a de facto declaration of bankruptcy. At the time of the notice’s issuance by the Council’s financial officer, an £87 million deficit remaine...

Several things happened in Britain this month that caught my eye. Straight-A student Courtney Wright, age 12, was sent home from the Bilton School in Warwickshire for wearing a Union Jack dress to school on Culture Celebration Day. Veils, head coverings, and Kinte cloth were OK, but not the British flag. Students honoring the Welsh dragon or flag of England were also sent home. This month, the King of England, one of whose titles is “Defender of the Faith,” inaugurated the King Charles III Wing of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies. Here he is, grinning at r...

The BBC Isn’t Failing. Its Job Is to Obscure the UK’s Partnership in Nazi Holocaust

Posted by: John Phoenix The confected Gaza ‘scandals’ are designed to browbeat the BBC into even greater cravenness. If it was reluctant before to give Palestinians a voice, now it will avoid doing so entirely After months of a confected furore over a BBC documentary supposedly demonstrating pro-Hamas bias, followed by the shelving of a second film on Gaza, an independent review found this week that the broadcaster had not breached impartiality guidelines. A long list of complaints against Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone – all pushed for months by the Israel lobby, and amplified by the British establishment media – were dismissed one after the other by Peter Johnston, director of the editorial complaints and review body that reports to the BBC director gene...

Syria: CIA-MI6 Intel Ops and Sabotage

Posted by: John Phoenix This incisive article by veteran war correspondent Felicity Arbuthnot was published by Global Research more than six years ago, on February 2, 2012. You will not read it in the New York Times.  At a time of  mounting media fabrications –when “objective truths are fading” and  “lies are passing into history”– this analysis reveals the diabolical modus operandi of US-NATO terrorism and  how covert intelligence ops are applied to trigger conditions which are conducive to the collapse of nation states. One of these “conditions” is the outright killing of  innocent civilians as part of a cover operation and then blaming president Bashar Al Assad of  having committed atrocities against his own people —Mich...
