An Attack on Edward Said’s Legacy

by LAWRENCE DAVIDSON Photograph Source: Briantrejo – CC BY-SA 3.0 I traveled to Israel and the Occupied Territories in the early 2000s with the progressive group Faculty for Israeli-Palestinian Peace. We made an effort to gain insight into most of the players in the conflict, and so a series of interviews was arranged with members of the Israeli right wing. I remember that one of them was Caroline Glick, an ardent American-Israeli Zionist. She lectured us on the positive personal relationships allegedly prevalent between Israeli Jews and Palestinians. It was an interesting and somewhat embarrassing experience. Glick and I are both American and both Jewish. Growing up, I had this understanding that American plus Jewish always meant being anti-racist. To be so was, in my mind,...

Review: American Pimp

TREVOR LYNCH •  American Pimp is a 1999 documentary directed by the Hughes Brothers, the half-black, half-Armenian twins who also directed Menace II Society and Dead Presidents. American Pimp fallen into obscurity and is now hard to find. But it deserves to be better-known, especially among race-realists. American Pimp is just under 90 minutes. It consists primarily of interviews with black pimps and their prostitutes. The film opens with clips of white people sharing their views about pimps, which are universally negative: disgusting, immoral, exploiters of women, parasites, gaudy, tasteless, extravagant, etc. It is hard to know if we are supposed to think these are all negative “stereotypes” for which white people should be ashamed. As the ...

The Fiscal Deficit, Modern Monetary Theory and Progressive Economic Policy

By Andrew Jackson Modern Monetary Theory or MMT has crept in from the academic margins to become an influential doctrine in progressive policy circles in the United States. Both Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders drew on the ideas of MMT to shape their ambitious public spending platforms. MMT has been cited as one way to fund a Green New Deal, in combination with progressive tax reform. It is safe to say that most Canadian progressives are not debating the finer points of monetary and fiscal policy. However it is useful to critically consider some of the most important pros and cons of MMT, based on the new book by a leading US advocate, Stephanie Kelton. (The Deficit Myth: Modern Monetary Theory and the Birth of the People’s Economy. New York: Public Affairs, ...

Money Capital versus “Life Capital”. Prof. John McMurtry

The War of Values We Live or Die By By Prof. John McMurtry and Dr. Jeffery Klaehn Author of UNESCOs ‘Philosophy and World Problems’, Professor John McMurtry is questioned on the planetary life-system crisis by media critic Dr. Jeffery Klaehn. Klaehn: You have  stated that ‘the war of values is what is least comprehended in our multi-level world crisis’.  What is this war of values? McMurtry: The blind spot at the highest levels of critical thought is on the underlying value system we are ruled by.  The dominant assumption is that ‘moral compass’ and ‘values’ are a matter of individual preferences, or are ideological masks for ruling-class interests. The value system we in fact live by is presupposed as economic necessity an...

Wikipedia’s Culture of Editorial Chaos and Malice

By Richard Gale and Dr. Gary Null Perhaps the greatest farce in the modern history of technology is the perception of Wikipedia as a legitimate encyclopedia. It has none of the qualifications as such but has all of the characteristics of a compromised propaganda machine disguised as an encyclopedia. An authentic encyclopedia is transparent. Users can review the qualifications and expertise of its contributors. There is no personal animus or bias. If anything, these are people who are acutely conscious of the facts regarding any given subject. There is no whitewashing, no recasting or repurposing of negative content into positive opinions or vice versa. If an error is detected, it can be quickly corrected. Now compare that with Wikipedia where there are over 100,000 editors who ar...

John Bolton's Complete Book: The Highlight of Trump's Former National Security Adviser

Several books have been published about Donald Trump's presidency, but the recent book of former National Security Adviser John Bolton has sparked more interest in American and world public opinion, given the writer's status and the nature of the information he provided. The book - titled "The Chamber where the events took place" - describes the ignorant president with the simplest geographical facts, and his decisions go beyond his desire to hold on to his position for a second term. Trump wonders why Bolton failed to testify at the President's dismissal sessions, while US President Bolton described him as "incompetent" and "boring stupid". The White House is trying to ban the book from being published, but US media have obtained copies of it, and has begun publishing clips of i...

WORKING WOMAN

By: Teresinka Pereira I work day and night, especially at night. Yesterday the dreams came back repeating his name in my pulse. My autistic son complained: "It is all gone! Everybody is gone! First my sisters, then my father. Then came my stepfather with his old tobacco breath, his scars of psychological shadows,  and his fears..." For some time I had a husband and in the afternoons my children laughing while I worked happily... Not today. I have lost both, my job and my husband. My son cleans the ivy from a dark tombstone and I see the name of a sad poet banished from this earthly paradise.  I bury his memory this time in the flesh of my breast. ..................

Extraordinary Disconnect Between Stock Prices and Economic Collapse

By Stephen Lendman US equity prices are near or at all-time highs at a time of unprecedented economic collapse, a festering main street Depression, unemployment way higher than in the 1930s, with no prospect for a V-shaped recovery, only its illusion. The Wall Street owned and controlled Fed is responsible for the extraordinary melt-up in stock valuations, money printing madness to blame — saving the stock market at the expense of the economy and welfare of ordinary Americans. For the first time in US history, the Fed’s balance sheet exceeds $7 trillion. It’s up from around $250 billion in the late 1980s and $750 billion in late December 2007, the onset of the 2008-09 financial crisis — a colossal example of mismanagement, an eventual price to pay for what’s going on. Wall St...

Harpal Brar: Long live Leninism!

Why does Lenin hold such an honoured position in the lexicon of socialist leaders? A century later, what can we learn from his teachings? Harpal Brar 22 April this year marked the 150th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, the inspirer of the great proletarian socialist revolution in Russia, the leader of the Russian and world proletariat. We publish this article in tribute to his earth-shaking contribution to the cause of world proletarian revolution and the struggle for the overthrow of world imperialism. ***** VI Lenin fought all his life against opportunism in the working-class movement, in Russia as well as in the west. He exposed and fought against the German socialist Kautsky’s degeneration into opportunism, making a concrete analysis of ever...

VERSES OF IRON FOR CHE GUEVARA

Teresinka Pereira I also want          to write my song of fire to the master         of guerrilla     warfare. It happens that I am armed with several languages and tears in order to weave verses of soft iron with which his hands can seed the memory and the future of our great country Latin America!
