Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro speaks during the launch ceremony of the platform Participa + Brasil, at the Planalto Palace, in Brasilia, Brasil, on February 8, 2020. BYC.J. Polychroniou, Truthout Since 2019, Brazil finds itself in the midst of one of its most difficult periods since the end of the military dictatorship in 1985, thanks to the inhumane policies of the Jair Bolsonaro regime which parallel those of Donald Trump’s administration. President Bolsonaro is an apologist for the brutal military dictatorship that ruled Brazil from 1964 to 1985, and there is even the possibility that he may attempt to resort to the military guys who he thinks might back him up in the face of growing opposition to his handling of the pandemic. Noam Chomsky has followed closely Brazilian an...

In Brazil, an alarmingly high number of babies and children are dying of Covid-19

By Carol Duff, MSN, BA, RN  By Nicole Acevedo MSNBC: The coronavirus has killed an estimated 1,300 babies in Brazil since the beginning of the pandemic, even though there’s overwhelming evidence that Covid-19 rarely kills young children. While data from the Health Ministry suggest that over 800 children under age 9 have died of Covid-19, including about 500 babies, experts say the real death toll is higher because cases are underreported because of a lack of widespread coronavirus testing, according to the BBC, which first reported the story. By Carol Duff, MSN, BA, RN  www.youtube.com Indigenous leaders warn of missionaries turning Amazon villages against vaccines By Anthony Boadle Reuters.com Health Editor’s Note: Shame on any group who would try to keep people from getting the COVID-19 vaccine. Specifically playing off fears of those who do not understand the process of how the virus replicates, spreads, and harms and kills humans is particularly heinous.  Coronavirus vaccines are essential to put a halt to this pandemic that is sickening hundreds of thousands daily, and killing thousands more. Daily the U.S. alone looses several thousand people to the ravages of this virus This is NOT acceptable! The numbers of those who contract the virus, become ill, perhaps so ill they die, will dwindle as long as we can ...

By Lucas Leiroz de Almeida Agribusiness is the center of the Brazilian economy, corresponding to more than 20% of the national GDP. In fact, Brazilian economy has suffered a heavy blow in recent years, with the country being subjected to an advanced process of deindustrialization. At that time, the agricultural sector is one of the few that still stands, further increasing its importance for the country. The pandemic strongly threatened Brazilian agribusiness and, at first, affected exports, but, contrary to initial expectations, the market overcame difficulties and emerged victorious from the crisis, mainly due to the heightened tensions in the US-China trade war. In June, the data of Brazilian exports in agribusiness broke a record, with more than 10 billion dollars – about 25% m...
