The daily struggle of Iraq’s widows of war

NOVANEWS by crescentandcross in Uncategorized  Reuters Halima Dakhil lost her husband in the sectarian slaughter that engulfed Iraq after the U.S. invasion in 2003 and now spends her days tearful and scared, knowing her $250 monthly wage won’t pay the rent and feed five children.  One of an estimated 2 million women who are primary breadwinners in Iraq, Dakhil is but one face of the humanitarian crisis left behind as U.S. forces withdraw from Iraq nearly nine years after toppling dictator Saddam Hussein.  Rent takes $210 of her monthly earning as a cleaner in a medical clinic. She depends mainly on the kindness of neighbors and other donors to feed her family.  ”When my husband was killed in 2006, my youngest child, Ridha, was only a toddler,” said Dakhil, wiping away her tears with he...

No-fly zone over Iraq set to expire, opening shortest route from Israel to Iran

NOVANEWS by crescentandcross in Uncategorized Agreement between United States and Iraq, signed in November 2008, is due to run out at end of the year when U.S. forces withdraw from Iraq under timetable set by President Obama. Haaretz A key clause in a U.S. military agreement creating a no-fly zone over Iraq is set to run out at the end of the year. The clause, inserted in the agreement following Iranian pressure on Iraq’s Shi’ite prime minister, Nouri al-Maliki, was apparently a way to thwart an Israeli air attack on Iran. The agreement between the United States and Iraq, signed in November 2008, is due to run out at the end of this year when U.S. forces withdraw from Iraq under the timetable set by President Barack Obama (although thousands of advisers will remain ). Clause 27 of the a...

American Soldier Teasing Iraqi kids

NOVANEWS  by crescentandcross in Uncategorized    As if it is not bad enough that their country has been destroyed, then Israel’s preferred attack dog has to engage in the typically-Jewish business of mocking the victim as well. Doesn’t it just make you PROUD Americans?

New Bombs and War Crimes in Fallujah

NOVANEWS by Jim Fetzer, Leuren Moret, and Christopher Busby Heavy firepower was used in Fallujah in 2004 HEAVY FIRE POWER WAS USED IN FALLUJAH IN 2004: U.S. Marines fire Nov. 11, 2004, on Fallujah with a 155 mm Howitzer. One of the weapons originally designed for this artillery piece was a tactical nuclear weapon (that could include a neutron warhead) designed by Samuel Cohen, to be fired in eastern Europe on Soviet troops during President Ronald Reagan’s term in office. [Photo: Lance Cpl. Withdrawal of US Troops From Iraq Highly Suspect

NOVANEWS by crescentandcross in Uncategorized Think-tank designs for Iran leave only Israeli attack & coaxed provocation for total war on table. Tony Cartalucci, landdestroyer.com For ten months the Obama administration has presided overthe ”Arab Spring,” a geopolitical gambit years in the making, and executed simultaneously in multiple nations throughout the Middle East and North Africa in the beginning of 2011. The regional conflagration was stoked by a steady stream of first, denial, even feigned surprise, with covert support for US-backed opposition groups, then more overt support, and finally NATO airstrikes, weapons, training, and special operations forces lent to the rebellion in Libya and weapons and support sent to Syria’s militants. These collective efforts stretching from ...

Iraq: Panetta’s Immunity Request Not Protection from ICC

NOVANEWS Hundreds of Americans Troops/Contractors Face War Crimes Accusations By Gordon Duff, Iraq, a nation horribly divided after an illegal invasion by the US and Britain in 2003 and the ravages of nearly a decade of civil war has decided to play the “war crimes” card while negotiating with the US over a troop pull out.  They don’t entirely want a troop pull out, not really.  Though the presence of the US is causing instability, the US is spreading around cash by the bushel, paying off everyone in sight. For the players, the contracting companies there, their buddies in Washington, the Pentagon Princes living in the luxurious “Green Zone” (a fond hello to several of my good friends who have been there for years) and those enjoying the “black ops” opportunities of playing Iraq against K...

Iraqi Christians find safety in north, but no jobs

ed note–remember, all you empty-headed/Israel-worshipping western Christians who were pissing your pants wanting to invade and destroy Iraq “for Jesus”–YOU HELPED BRING THIS ABOUT. Where are your tears for the suffering your support caused your fellow Christians? OH WAIT, I FORGOT–DOESN’T MATTER–THEY’RE SAND NIGGERS ANYWAY. Reuters Menas Saad Youssef no longer fears being blown up while praying in a church. But she and many other traumatised Christians who fled Iraq’s capital for safer areas have a new crisis — no jobs. Almost a year since a deadly church siege in Baghdad that killed dozens of people and prompted her family to seek refuge in the prosperous northern Kurdish region, Youssef sits at home, frustrated about her future. The 28-year-old academic, who is still haunted by image...

US Invasion led to spike in Iraqi widows

NOVANEWS BAGHDAD (AP) — A study released Sunday by a global humanitarian aid organization concluded that three out of every five widows in Iraq lost their husbands in the years of violence that followed the 2003 invasion. The study by Los Angeles-based Relief International found that about 10 percent of the estimated 15 million women who live in Iraq are widows. Among them, 59 percent have lost their husbands during the U.S.-led war. The study warned that criminal gangs and terrorist groups might try to recruit desperate widows, and that ignoring their suffering could lead them to prostitution, drugs and terrorism. “The Iraqi state has neglected the widows with their enormous problems, and the solutions lie in the establishing of bodies to take care of and solve the problems of these ...

Iraqi Exiles Who Lied US Into War Denied Green Cards

NOVANEWS   As a member of the Iraqi National Congress, he worked for years to topple Saddam Hussein before being granted political asylum in the United States in 1997. But for the last decade, while Mr. Rifahe, 57, lived quietly with his family in Texas and Minnesota, the Department of Homeland Security has refused to grant his application for a green card, instead letting the case languish unresolved. Under a sweeping section of federal immigration law, the government considers Mr. Rifahe to have engaged in terrorist-related activity, making him ineligible to live here permanently. That the group Mr. Rifahe worked for was once supported by the United States and tried to overthrow Saddam Hussein matters little. “It is not fair; I want to stay here,” Mr. Rifahe said. “How come th...

Cables: Iraqi Detainees Were Tortured, Beaten, Raped

NOVANEWS US-supported Iraqi officials implemented with impunity the systematic torture of detainees, cables reveal antiwar.com Iraqi detainees were severely tortured, beaten, and raped in an Iraqi National Police detention complex in 2006, according to a confidential State Department cable released by WikiLeaks. Discovery by US officials of the abuse did not lead to criminal investigations of the perpetrators and much of the mistreatment was permitted to continue. On May 30, 2006, “a joint US-Iraqi inspection” of an Iraqi detention facility “discovered more than 1,400 detainees in squalid, cramped conditions,” many of whom were illegally detained. Prisoners “displayed bruising, broken bones, and lash-marks, many claimed to have been hung by handcuffs from a hook in the ceiling and bea...
