Iraq Will be Hit Harder by Falling Oil Prices Than COVID-19 or ISIS

by PATRICK COCKBURN Photograph Source: L.C. Nøttaasen – CC BY 2.0 The shadowy figures of well-armed Isis gunmen can be seen making an attack in the plains of northern Iraq on an outpost held by paramilitary fighters loyal to the Iraqi government. Some four of the latter are killed by a roadside bomb. Isis specialises in publicising its successful military actions online to show that it remains a force to be feared, despite the destruction of the so-called caliphate and the killing last year of its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. The appalling atrocities committed by Isis at the height of its power ensure that any sign that the movement is back in business creates a thrill of horror at home and abroad. But, while it is true that Isis has been launching an ...

From Wuhan to Baghdad with Donald Trump and George W. Bush

By Lawrence Davidson I have been writing these analyses for 10 years. Really not a great amount of time, but enough that you see leaders ignorantly repeat the mistakes of their predecessors. You also notice that most of the media, and almost all of the citizenry, appear not to notice the repetitions. Just such a rerun is now playing itself out. COVID-19 and the Wuhan laboratory claim According to a New York Times (NYT)  article, President Trump and his secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, have begun pressing the US government’s intelligence agencies to come up with evidence that the COVID-19 virus originated in a Chinese lab in Wuhan – specifically, that city’s Institute of Virology.  Let’s state up front that there is no reliable evidence that this is...

No to the US War on Iran: CPIML Condemns the Murder of General Qassem Soleimani

No to the US War on Iran: CPIML Condemns the Murder of General Qassem Soleimani CPIML condemns the murder of General Qassem Soleimani for which US President Trump has claimed personal responsibility. This unprovoked killing of a very prominent figure in the Iranian military and state, along with Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy commander of the Popular Mobilisation Forces (an umbrella group of Iran-backed militias) and at least six other people has clearly been carried out in order to escalate an imperialist war on Iran. The US and in particular Israel have long wanted to eliminate the Iranian state which stands as a countervailing force to the apartheid Israeli regime and the ongoing US-Israeli plunder of the region.  A US war on Iran will deepen the conflict in the entire re...

12 Ways the US Invasion of Iraq Lives On in Infamy

The most serious consequences of the disastrous invasion and occupation of Iraq confirm what millions of people around the world warned about 17 years ago. byMedea Benjamin, Nicolas J.S. Davies Seventeen years later, the consequences of the Iraq invasion have lived up to the fears of all who opposed it. (Photo: Alisdare Hickson/flickr/cc)While the world is consumed with the terrifying coronavirus pandemic, on March 19 the Trump administration will be marking the 17th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq by ramping up the conflict there. After an Iran-aligned militia allegedly struck a U.S. base near Baghdad on March 11, the U.S. military carried out retaliatory strikes against five of the militia’s weapons factories and announced it is sending two more aircraft carriers to ...

COVID-19: Cover for Military Attack on Iran and Iraq?

Trump ignores Iraqi demand US occupation forces leave the country. By Kurt Nimmo Global Research, It was Rahm Emmanuel who said the state should never let a “good crisis go to waste.” In regard to Iran, the neocons will not let the COVID-19 “crisis” go to waste. It is a perfect cover for escalating tension with the Islamic Republic.  It is more than obvious the geopolitical ignoramus Donald Trump is under the influence of a gaggle of neocons chomping at the bit to kill tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of Iranians.  Donald J. Trump✔@realDonaldTrump Upon information and belief, Iran or its proxies are planning a sneak attack on U.S. troops and/or assets in Iraq. If this happens, Iran will pay a very heavy price, ind...

Trump Regime Plotting More War in Iraq?

By Stephen Lendman Global Research, Former Obama regime chief of staff/Chicago mayor/earlier and current investment banker Rahm Emanuel once notoriously said: “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. I mean, it’s an opportunity to do things that you think you could not do before.” Post-9/11, a permanent US state of war became official bipartisan policy — at home on human and civil rights, abroad against sovereign independent states to replace their legitimate governments with pro-Western puppet ones. The objective then and now is all about concentrating greater wealth and power in the hands of privileged interests at the expense of peace, the rule of law, and fundamental rights and welfare of ordinary people everywhere. Michel Chossudovsky exp...

US officials admit killing Qassem Soleimani has backfired

TEHRAN, IRAN - SEPTEMBER 18 : Iranian Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani attends Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's (not seen) meeting with the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in Tehran, Iran on September 18, 2016. (Photo by Pool / Press Office of Iranian Supreme Leader/Anadolu Agency/Getty Images) In an article released on Saturday, March 21st, the New York Times reported that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is experiencing a rift regarding their actions against Iran on January 3rd. “President Trump was getting ready to declare the coronavirus a ‘national emergency’, but inside the White House last Thursday, a tense debate erupted among the president and his top advisers on a far different subject: whether the United States should escalate m...

Iraqi Politics in a Storm, Heading Towards Instability and Chaos

By Elijah J. Magnier Global Research, Following Iraqi president Barham Saleh’s nomination of Adnan al-Zarfi (Zurufi or Zurfi) as the new Prime Minister, Iraq has entered a critical stage.  The Shia block is divided. The 30 days given to al-Zarfi to nominate his cabinet will lead either to a quorum of the parliament recognising his new cabinet and in consequences to a bloody future that could lead to unrest and even partition of Iraq or absence of a quorum. Why did President Saleh nominate al-Zarfi? In 2018 Speaker Mohamad Halbousi proposed Barham Saleh as President. The proposal was adopted by “Al-Fateh”, the largest Shia coalition, with the agreement of the Sunni. Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani and US presidential envoy Brett McGurk were against...

Why Is the U.S. Bombing Iraq During a Pandemic?

By Nina DeMeo Global Research, Even as coronavirus spreads rapidly across the globe, causing a health crisis of historic proportions, the U.S. military is engaging in new military attacks in the Middle East. The U.S. must cease all military interventions and redirect its military budget to combat the pandemic. *** Amidst the unprecedented crisis that the world is currently facing as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the U.S. military is continuing to carry out airstrikes abroad. On March 12th, the U.S. launched several rockets, hitting five targets in southern Iraq, which Iraqi military officials say damaged an unfinished civilian airport and killed three Iraqi soldiers, two police officers, and a civilian worker. The attack was one in a series of retaliations against...

THE NSA LIED US INTO IRAQ ‘ Video’

Posted by: Sammi Ibrahem,SR THE STORY YOU NEVER HEARD https://youtu.be/nx44mQdsD1I PRODUCED BY RINGOFFIRERADIO.COM On this day in 2003 the US invaded Iraq. How did this “little” point get lost in the NSA story? The NSA’s JOB is to spy on the communications of our enemies, not to listen to and record your phone calls. Here’s a case where they not only got it massively wrong, it also looks like they remained silent while their “evidence” was used to drive the US into a ruinous war. Did they present false information to the Bush criminals or did they merely sit back and do nothing when that evidence was grossly misrepresented. It hardly matters, does it. Massively wrong in either case.
