Posted by: John Phoenix May’s presidential election in Syria was won resoundingly by the incumbent president, Bashar al-Assad, who secured 95.1 percent of the vote on a turnout of 78.6 percent. The polling went ahead at over 12,100 polling centres across the country, whilst Syrian refugees and expats cast an early ballot in the embassies of their host countries. A total of 18 million Syrians at home and abroad were registered to vote in the election. Syria’s foreign ministry thanked the expats and refugees for their massive participation in the presidential election. Posted by: John Phoenix At long last, US imperialism and its surrogate in the Middle East, Israel, have, at least temporarily, achieved their long-held dream of overthrowing the Syrian government headed by Bashar al-Assad.  In the latest instalment of the conflict between Syria and the US-Israel combine, events unfolded in a way, and with a speed, no-one had expected. The jihadi head-chopping, throat-slitting, heart-eating serial rapists and torturers broke out of their haven in the province of Idlib and launched their assault on 27 November, capturing within a week Aleppo (the second largest city in Syria), Hama (the third largest), followed by Homs and the capital Damascus on the 8th of December. Posted by: John Phoenix On 8 December it was announced that President Bashar Al Assad had resigned from the office he had held since the year 2000 and had left the country. A statement released later stated that he was in exile in the Russian Federation and this has been subsequently confirmed by President Putin. Assad’s resignation brought about the end of the Syrian Arab Republic and a terrible defeat for Arab nationalism, Ba’athism and the axis of resistance.  The fall of Assad was followed by direct intervention by two regional allies of US imperialism – Turkey in the north and Israel in the south.
