Lavrovto Tillerson on consulate closure: We regret escalation of tension not initiated by Russia

NOVANEWS Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has expressed regret over the “escalation of tensions” after the US State Department ordered Russia to close several diplomatic offices in the US within 48 hours. Moscow will carefully study the new measures the US announced and will inform Washington of its reaction, Lavrov said. On August 23, the US embassy in Russia suspended all “nonimmigrant visa operations” in Russia, saying they will be resumed only in the main embassy building in Moscow on September 1. “NIV [non-immigrant visa] interviews at the US Consulates in St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, and Vladivostok are suspended until further notice,” the embassy said in a statement. “The first impression is that the American authors of these decisions made one more attempt to draw di...

‘We’re one bad day away from Russians

NOVANEWS ‘We’re one bad day away from Russians asking, ‘Why are you still in Syria?’ – top US commander By GPD  A US special operations commander has admitted that an extended US stay in Syria runs contrary to international law and that Russia would be entirely justified in questioning its presence there. At the Aspen Security Forum on Friday, Special Operations Command chief Army General, Raymond Thomas was asked whether American forces will remain in Syria, after Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) is defeated, possibly, to support the Kurdish forces in the north of the country. The Russia Review Act: Senate Aims to Block Trump From Lifting Sanctions on Russia

NOVANEWS By Stephen Lendman Global Research In late January, Senate Republicans John McCain and Rob Portman strongly opposed lifting sanctions on Russia, McCain saying: “I hope President Trump will put an end to this speculation and reject such a reckless course. If he does not, I will work with my colleagues to codify sanctions against Russia into law.” Portman claimed lifting them would damage US leadership and credibility. After 24 years under the Clintons, Bush/Cheney and Obama, they’re damaged beyond repair. US sanctions on Russia were illegally imposed for political reasons, no others – part of longstanding US Russia bashing, with strong bipartisan support. On Wednesday, bipartisan Senate sanctions oversight legislation on Russia was introduced – sponsored by neocons L...
