Iraq parliament calls for US forces to leave

NOVANEWS   Iraqi MP Ahmad Al-Assadi, senior leader of the Iraqi Construction Alliance, revealed on Friday parliamentarian moves to pressure the Iraqi government to evict US forces from the country. Al-Assadi said that the previous Iraqi parliament had started the calls, but now the new parliament was calling for a clear timetable for the US withdrawal from Iraq, Arabi21 reported. He added that US forces had entered the country at the request of the Iraqi government for training purposes and assistance in fighting Daesh. Yet Al-Assadi stressed that: “After the big victory against these gangs [Daesh], the Iraqi government has the right to evaluate the need for American forces to remain on Iraqi soil”. He also said that the calls for US forces to leave would be doubled during the next p...

Iraq +15: Accumulated Evil of the Whole

NOVANEWS By Nat Parry | Consortium News  Robert Jackson, the Chief United States Prosecutor at the Nuremberg Trials of Nazi war criminals, once denounced aggressive war as “the greatest menace of our time.” With much of Europe laying in smoldering ruin, he said in 1945 that “to initiate a war of aggression … is not only an international crime: it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of whole.” When it comes to the U.S. invasion of Iraq 15 years ago today, the accumulated evil of the whole is difficult to fully comprehend. Estimates of the war’s costs vary, but commonly cited figures put the financial cost for U.S. taxpayers at upwards of a trillion dollars, the cost in Iraqi lives in the hundreds o...

Iraq breakup will lead to global conflict: Turkish minister

NOVANEWS By Jim W. Dean, Managing Editor  Turkish Defense Minister tells Ankara’s opposition to planned Kurdish independence in Iraq will lead to a global conflict. … from Press TV, Tehran [ Editor’s Note: Turkey has armored forces deployed north of Idlib province on the Syrian border, and on the Iraqi border, also. Both are invasion forces but there has been little press on the infantry and air cover that would be needed for them.  Recent air strikes have been made against the PKK in SE Turkey.  Similar forces are on the NE border of Syria where the Kurdish SDF has been active.   If a shooting war begins in Iraq, which could easily happen with both parties on high military alert and where things can happen accidentally, could it become a regional conflict as the Turkish Defense Minis...

Civilians in Iraq “Die by Mistake” as a Result of US Air Raids, Humanitarian Catastrophe in Mosul

NOVANEWS By Firas Samuri Global Research   The government forces of Syria and Iraq continue to fight against terror groups with the support of their allies. Russian Air Force assists the Syrian army, and the International Coalition headed by the U.S. is “cooperating” with the armed forces of Iraq [against the ISIS which is supported by America's Middle East including Saudi Arabia and Qatar in close liaison with Washington]. It should be mentioned that the Liberation of Aleppo from Jabhat al-Nusra‘s terrorists by the Syrian army units last December became a tipping point in the Syrian war. Then the Syrian government has taken all possible measures to safely evacuate all of the civilians from the western neighborhoods of the city. The humanitarian pauses have been introduced and ...

The New Baghdad Pact

NOVANEWS By Dr Bouthaina Shaaban  A recently declassified CIA document prepared in 1983, and released on 20 January 2017, shows that the United States had at the time encouraged Saddam Hussein to attack Syria, which would have led to a vicious conflict between the two countries, thus draining their resources. The report, which was then prepared by CIA officer Graham Fuller, indicates that the US tried adamantly to convince Saddam to attack Syria under any pretense available, in order to get the two most powerful countries in the Arab East to destroy each other, turning their attention away from the Arab-Israeli conflict. And since Saddam was already knee-deep in a bloody war against Iran, he needed to be incentivized and encouraged by American client states in the region, such as Saudi ...

A Reprise of the Iraq-WMD Fiasco?

NOVANEWS By James W Carden  The controversy over Russia’s alleged interference in the 2016 presidential election shows no sign of letting up. A bipartisan group of U.S. senators recently introduced legislation that would impose sanctions on Russia in retaliation for its acts of “cyber intrusions.” Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham At a press event in Washington on Tuesday, Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, called Election Day 2016 “a day that will live in cyber infamy.” Previously, Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, called the Russian hacks of the Democratic National Committee “an act of war,” while Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, has claimed that there is near unanimity among senators regarding Russia’s culpability. Despite all this, the question of who exactly is responsible for ...
