Kashmir Solidarity Day on 3 October 2019

Posted by: Sammi Ibrahem,Sr According to the BJP, Operation Kashmir has been the biggest achievement so far of Modi 2.0. Admittedly, vast sections of the general public got swayed in favour of this supposedly complete integration of Kashmir with India, and initially it was difficult to find many takers for our bold opposition to this despotic step of the Modi government. But now as more and more people wake up to the reality of growing mass resentment and massive violation of democratic rights in Kashmir valley and international opposition to Indian state’s unilateral violation of the historical and constitutional conditions of Kashmir’s merger withMore Adivasi Rights Yatra concludes with Conference at Sonbhadra The Adivasi Rights and Justice Yatra led by party State Secretary Co...

A new black mark in the history of the UAE and Bahrain

UAE Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Zayed (L) and India's Prime Minister in Abu Dhabi, UAE [Narendra Modi/Twitter]Abdulaziz Kilani @AZ_KilaniAugust 27, 2019 at 10:39 am Despite the fact that India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently revoked the special status that granted rights to Kashmir and its people to make their own constitution, the government of the UAE has awarded him the country’s highest civilian honour. This is a new low, even by the UAE’s standards, and a black mark in its history. It is unbelievable that Modi has moved against Muslims who live in the Indian-administrated Kashmir, and yet a Muslim country like the UAE has granted him such an honour. Reversing the autonomous status in place for decades certainly seemed to mean nothing to Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Zay...

Genocide Watch issues alerts for occupied Kashmir and India’s Assam state

Genocide Watch, a global organisation dedicated to the prevention of genocide, has issued two warning alerts for India — one for the occupied territory of Kashmir and the other for Assam state. According to the website, a ‘Genocide Watch’ warning is declared by the NGO when there are signs of the early stages of a genocide in progress. Founded by academic Dr Gregory Stanton in 1999, the organisation exists to predict, prevent, stop, and punish genocide — as defined in the Genocide Convention — and other forms of mass murder. The most recent genocide alert issued by the organisation was for occupied Kashmir, in which it identified the genocidal process, based on Dr Stanton’s 10 Stages of Genocide, to be far advanced: Classification: Hindu and Sikh Indian army “us” vs Kashmiri...

UN experts urge India to end ‘collective punishment’ in Kashmir

By Agence France-Presse  A group of UN human rights experts on Thursday urged India to end the communications blackout imposed on Kashmir, warning it amounted to “collective punishment” and risked exacerbating regional tensions. They voiced alarm over the measures imposed by India since it revoked autonomous rule in occupied Kashmir on Aug 5, including a near-total communications blackout. “The shutdown of the internet and telecommunication networks, without justification from the government, are inconsistent with the fundamental norms of necessity and proportionality,” the five experts, who are independent and do not speak for the world body, said in a statement. “The blackout is a form of collective punishment of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, without even a pretext of a pr...

Kashmir in panic after India orders tourists to leave

Indian Hindu devotees trek on horses at Chandanwari, some 115 km southeast of Srinagar, during the annual Hindu pilgrimage on July 27, 2019 to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath. (Photo by AFP) Authorities in the Indian-controlled Kashmir have called on tourists to immediately leave the disputed Himalayan region, raising fears of a new crackdown. The Jammu and Kashmir government said in an unprecedented order on Friday that tourists should cut short their stay in the region and return as soon as possible because of “intelligence inputs of terror threats” against a huge Hindu pilgrimage and “the prevailing security situation.” In a joint press conference, the Indian army and the state police said there were “confirmed intelligence reports” claiming that terrorists backed by Pakistan we...
