Impose a No-Fly Zone on Gaza not Libya

NOVANEWS Anyone who believes that the imperialist assault on Libya has anything to do with a justified sense of anger at Col. Ghadaffi’s murder and terrorisation of the opposition needs their head examined. It hasn’t escaped notice that the same ‘supporters’ of the Libyan Revolution have also supported the use of Saudi and Quatarian troops to bloodily put down demonstrations in Bahrain. Ghadaffi, despite being a merciless thug and madman and despite his recent cuddling up to the same imperialist exploiters he is now denouncing, remember his embrace of Tony Blair, has not been forgiven for his earlier bouts of independence such as supplying the IRA with weaponry. The ‘no fly zone’ is another of those military misnomers such as ‘collateral damage’. It means bombing cities, military install...

Gaza Operation Hope

NOVANEWS by Sami Jadallah We give Israel tens of billions in arms and bombs, let us give the people of Gaza some hope. Gaza Operation Hope I am sure the Americans and the Europeans will be very pleased if Abbas of Ramallah and Haniyeh of Gaza announced to the world their willingness to entrust the management and operation including security for the Port of Gaza to the Americans and NATO. Let America manage and operate the port making sure only constructions materials, food supplies and consumers goods comes through the port. Let Americans and the Europeans break the siege of Gaza and end once and for all the Israeli Occupation of Gaza that has lasted some 42 years. Let America and Europe operate all of the security measures, not to Israel’s satisfaction but to the American and Europ...

Activists vow to remain at Egypt’s Rafah crossing after authorities deny entry of cement into besieged Gaza Strip

NOVANEWS by Adam Morrow   RAFAH, EGYPT (Mar. 27, 2007) – A ten-ton shipment of cement was denied entry into the Gaza Strip via Egypt’s Rafah border crossing on Sunday by the Egyptian authorities. The shipment was arranged by the Egyptian-International Coalition for Lifting the Siege and Rebuilding Gaza, a group of concerned Egyptian citizens and foreign nationals. “We’re sorry to report that, despite our expectations, the authorities have not allowed the cement to pass through Rafah,” said Coalition Coordinator Ahmed Elassy. “This means that Egypt’s policy of supporting the four-year-old Zionist siege of Gaza Strip — which was instituted by the regime of former president Hosni Mubarak — remains in effect, contrary to the will of the vast majority of the Egyptian people.” The shipmen...

UNCOMFORTABLE TRUTHS IN PALESTINE: INDICTMENT AND CONUNDRUM

NOVANEWS   by Dr. Alan Sabrosky     Far too often, what is not said, or cannot be said, publicly is more significant than the platitudes bandied about by assorted political leaders and pundits. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli matrix of death and disinformation. President Obama in particular acts as if he were mesmerized by all this. He has all the power, but acts as if he were powerless. He can make things happen if he chooses to exert himself, yet has ended up positioning himself as a supplicant to Israel and pretending ignorance of Palestinian realities. He thinks and speaks, but does nothing of substance that Israel does not want him to do. The Indictment So let us look at those uncomfortable truths, politically unspeakable at leas...

Engage on Massad on the Fatah Coup

NOVANEWS Posted by: Sammi Ibrahem Chair of West Midland PSC July 03, 2007   The fact that it has just been reproduced on the Palestine Solidarity Campaign PSC website may be significant in that it means the PSC is now publishing pieces denouncing Fatah and the Abbas government as ' collaborators with the enemy. I'm indebted to the "non"-Zionists at Engage for drawing attention to this Joseph Massad article in al-Ahram. He's pointing out that American support for the Fatah takeover of the West Bank is the latest in a long line of American overthrows of elected governments in the Middle East. As the enemies of the Palestinian people have been attacking them on every front -- Israel with its inquisition against Azmi Bishara and with him Palestinian resistance to the racist basis of th...

Cement For Gaza

NOVANEWS Ten tons of cement await entry into Gaza Strip on Egypt’s Rafah border crossing by Adam Morrow RAFAH (Mar. 25) – On Thursday afternoon, a flatbed truck bearing ten tons of cement arrived at Egypt’s Rafah border crossing en route to the besieged Gaza Strip. The shipment, which was accompanied by a 15-member delegation from the Egyptian-International Coalition for Lifting the Siege and Rebuilding Gaza, is now awaiting written permission from the relevant authorities to enter the coastal enclave. “Since the border is officially closed on Fridays and Saturdays, we’re hoping to get permission to bring the cement into Gaza on Sunday morning,” said coalition coordinator Ahmed Elassy. “Based on our positive experiences with the Egyptian Armed Forces and intelligence services in t...

IsraHell Military Escalation in Gaza

NOVANEWS   Sergio Yahni, Alternative Information Center (AIC) The month of March marked a new wave of Israeli hostilities toward the besieged Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip. Those hostilities included tightening the siege and a gradual escalation of military attacks that have to date killed 11 Palestinians and injured more than 40. Previous Israeli military attack on Gaza   At the beginning of March the Israeli army announced its decision to shut down the Karni Crossing in the central Gaza Strip and transfer all imports of goods to the Kerem Shalom Crossing in the southern Gaza Strip. While the army claims this decision was due to security reasons, Palestinian and Israeli human rights groups have expressed concerns about this measure.   Gisha, an Israeli hu...

Cecilie Surasky Jewish Voice for Peace ______________________________________________________________________________ From Gaza to Jerusalem: JVP Statement on the Escalation of Violence, March 25, 2011 Any act of violence, especially one against civilians, marks a profound failure of human imagination and causes a deep and abiding trauma for all involved.
