1939: On this Day in History, Adolf Hitler survives assassination attempt

NOVANEWS On this day 8th day of November in 1939, on the 16th anniversary of Hitler’s Beer Hall Putsch, a bomb explodes just after Hitler has finished giving a speech By: VT On this day 8th day of November in 1939, on the 16th anniversary of Hitler’s Beer Hall Putsch, a bomb explodes just after Hitler has finished giving a speech. He was unharmed.Hitler had made an annual ritual on the anniversary of his infamous 1923 coup attempt, (Hitler’s first grab at power that ended in his arrest and the virtual annihilation of his National Socialist party), of regaling his followers with his vision of the Fatherland’s future. On this day, he had been addressing the Old Guard party members, those disciples and soldiers who had been loyal to Hitler and his fascist party since the earliest ...

New German law makes ‘full online censorship’ official

NOVANEWS Judith Bergman Gatestone Institute © Jim Cooke/GMG, Getty A new German law introducing state censorship on social media platforms came into effect on October 1, 2017. The new law requires social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, to censor their users on behalf of the German state. Social media companies are obliged to delete or block any online "criminal offenses" such as libel, slander, defamation or incitement, within 24 hours of receipt of a user complaint -- regardless of whether or the content is accurate or not. Social media companies receive seven days for more complicated cases. If they fail to do so, the German government can fine them up to 50 million euros for failing to comply with the law. This state censorship makes free speech subject...

Profits über Alles! American Corporations and Hitler

NOVANEWS Review Article By Dr. Jacques R. Pauwels Global Research Editorial Note This article was first published by Global Research more than 13 years ago on 8 June 2004. While America is at war in Ukraine, supportive of a Neo-Nazi proxy regime, this incisive and carefully researched article by Dr. Jacques Pauwels provides us with a historical understanding of the relationship between American corporations and Nazi Germany. The support of Neo-Nazis in Ukraine is part of a longstanding relationship.  M. Ch, GR Editor, October 2017 *** In the United States, World War II is generally known as “the good war.” In contrast to some of America’s admittedly bad wars, such as the near-genocidal Indian Wars and the vicious conflict in Vietnam, World War II is widely celebrated as a...

Elections in Germany and Their Impact on the Western Balkans

NOVANEWS By: Mimoza Ahmetaj, Former Minister of EU Integration of Kosovo, Pristina EU Expects Trouble Coming From Catalonia, But Real Danger Comes From The Balkans Only in the Balkans - Reforms Theft Vučić Can be Trusted as Much as Putin The elections in Germany confirmed the victory of the CDU-CSU coalition, albeit with less votes than in past elections. Obviously, the result will not undermine Germany's role in Europe and in the Balkans, neither Chancellor Angela Merkel's position. The Chancellor remains a significant figure that is largely supported by the German opinion. This has been proved by these elections and by major support she is enjoying within the CDU itself. Accepting a million of refugees from Syria, voting for homosexual marriage, early retirement of those who have...

Germany at a turning point

NOVANEWS By M K Bhadrakumar | Indian Punchline  The elections to the German Bundestag on Sunday throw up big surprises. Chancellor Angela Merkel will lead the next coalition government, too – her fourth successive win – but in all other respects, the results signify that Germany’s post-World War II politics is at a turning point. First and foremost, the two mainstream parties that have dominated German politics have now come to represent only 53% of the electorate. The level of fragmentation is stunning for a country that is synonymous with the ‘middle path’. Second, Merkel’s CDU (Christian democrats) has lost support and her coalition partner SPD (social democrats) suffered a humiliating defeat. Third, the right-wing nationalist AfP – reviled as ‘neo-Nazis’ – won over 13% votes and secu...

Holocaust, Hate Speech & Were the Germans so Stupid? ‘VIEDO’

NOVANEWS Posted by: Kitty Moses Suppressing free and open discussion on any subject is as bad as telling lies, and knowingly suppressing the truth is the biggest lie of all, because it is based, not on a mistake or a genuine error, but on a deliberate intention to deceive. Having been tortured, Rudolf Höss, who was the commander of Auschwitz from 1940 to 1943, almost certainly lied to save the lives of his wife and children. Even if torture and duress cannot be proven, the overwhelming reason for recognizing the utter falsity of the Höss confession is that the gassing method he described was not scientifically plausible. Yet Höss’s conviction has stood, by inference, as a testament to the cruelty of Germans in general, since he was tried at Nuremberg, in 1947, and subsequently hanged ...

Germany: Trial of Neo-Nazi Terror Group Whitewashes Role of Intelligence Services

NOVANEWS By Dietmar Henning World Socialist  Featured image: Beate Zschäpe (Source: Tagesspiegel) After more than four years of proceedings, the German federal prosecutor’s office ended its summation on Tuesday and demanded a lifelong sentence and subsequent preventive detention for Beate Zschäpe. Zschäpe is the surviving member of the trio of neo-Nazi terrorists known as the National Socialist Underground (NSU). The federal prosecutor, Herbert Diemer, also called for long prison sentences for other defendants on trial in Munich. Over the course of seven days, the prosecution laid out in detail the case against the accused. Excluded from the trial and from prosecution from the very beginning were state agencies, in particular the German domestic intelligence agency, the Offic...

Deployment of British Trident “Nuclear Deterrent” Subject to Approval by Trump [and Family]

NOVANEWS By Anthony Bellchambers Renewal of the so-called Trident nuclear deterrent is a political decision not a military one and is being driven by political considerations rather than the actual requirement of Britain’s national defence. Furthermore, any actual deployment of ICBMs would, in practice, require the approval of the US president i.e. currently Donald Trump, his family and his Likud-leaning Congress.  Britain would require prior authority from Washington who in turn would probably seek advice from non-NATO member, Israel. As the UK becomes increasingly vulnerable [allegedly] to threat from international terrorism, the so-called Trident [submarine-launched], nuclear deterrent should now be scrapped and replaced with 21st century, NATO sourced, military technology to...

‘White’ and ‘Gray’ Propaganda: All You Need to Know About Fake News

NOVANEWS Sputnik  A former GDR intelligence agent, Horst Kopp, wrote a book named “Disinformant” (Der Desinformant) revealing how fake news was produced during the postwar period in Germany. In an interview with Sputnik Germany, Kopp reveals the origin of propaganda and how it is used to achieve certain goals. In his book, Kopp draws attention to the fact that state-sponsored propaganda was not invented by the East during the Cold War. It was a communication tool developed by the US 100 years ago. “In 1917, the world’s first state propaganda apparatus was created in the United States. President Woodrow Wilson approved the annual funding of the Committee on Public Information (CPI) in the amount of five million dollars. Foreign newspapers were supplied with positive information about the...

Artists boycott I$raHell sponsored festival in Germany

NOVANEWS Four artists have cancelled their scheduled performances at an international festival in Berlin citing the festival’s partnership with the Nazi Jewish embassy and their support for the Palestinian call for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. The Pop-Kultur festival, which is due to take place in Berlin next week, is an annual event that attracts thousands of visitors. While the two-day event also boasts over 30 sponsors including several internationally recognised brands, 'Israel' appears to be the only foreign country taking a keen interest. Tunisian singer-songwriter Emel Mathlouthi, one of the four to cancel their performance, said in a statement posted on Facebook yesterday that she “was looking forward to playing until [I] realised the festival was sponso...
