Who wants to keep Yemen divided, and who is trying to unify it?

Posted by: John Phoenix Amid growing resistance to the Saudis in the occupied south, the question of separation is once again raising its head in Yemen. Proletarian writers Subscribe to our  channel Attempts to keep the country divided have nothing to do with national aspirations and everything to do with imperialist control. They must be opposed by socialists and anti-imperialists. As of July 2023, protesters have been taking to the streets in Aden, the de facto capital of the Saudi/UAE coalition-occupied southern portion of war-torn Yemen. Amidst a blistering summer heatwave, they are only receiving six hours of electricity a day; this in a region where there is no shortage of natural resources for fuel. Additionally, the economy is i...

Houthi Rebels Threaten Renewed War Against Yemen Government

The Houthi militia in Yemen threatened to resume fighting against the government forces and the Saudi Zio-Wahhabi led coalition. 11 Homes Destroyed by Fire in Displaced Yemeni Camp Mohamed Al-Atifi, the defense chief of the Houthi rebel militia, accused the coalition of "deception and dishonesty" during ongoing peace talks with the rebels, declaring that the group is preparing for new actions to expel coalition forces from Yemen and seize control of all territory. The recent military parades and maneuvers conducted by the Houthis were not mere shows of force but rather a signal of their readiness for a new round of warfare, he warned. The fresh threats came as Al-Atifi visited Houthi frontline positions in Yemen's southwestern province of Taiz, where the rebel gr...

Ukraine and Yemen Wars Highlight US’s Role as Biggest Arms Dealer in the World

U.S. weapons manufacturers have spent $2.5 billion lobbying Congress over the past 20 years. By Mike Ludwig , TRUTHOUT Yemenis inspect the damage from airstrikes by Saudi-led coalition forces in Sanaa, Yemen, on January 18, 2022. Analysts say the defense industry has spent billions of dollars lobbying Congress while quietly making much more in profit by manufacturing weapons that fuel deadly conflicts in Ukraine, Yemen and across the world under federal arms sales agreements that have little effective congressional oversight. There is a dangerous “feedback loop” between major weapons manufacturers in the United States...

Yemeni FM berates Biden for faking ‘concern’, says US complicit in war, siege

Press TV Yemen’s foreign minister says the United States is bent on whitewashing its complicity in the Saudi-led aggression against the impoverished Arab country by pretending to be concerned about achieving peace there. Hisham Sharaf was cited by the Yemeni Saba news agency as making the remarks on Tuesday, two days after US President Joe Biden released a statement on the anniversary of the start of an UN-sponsored ceasefire in Yemen and stressed Washington’s “support” for all efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive peace in the war-ravaged country. Underlining that the US was “trying to evade its responsibilities” as a party responsible for the Saudi-led war and was profiting from it, Sharaf challenged Washington to “prove” its sincerity in wanting peace in Y...

Yemen v Ukraine: What makes a war newsworthy?

Posted by: John Phoenix Why are the crocodile tears of our leaders and their presstitutes reserved for some victims of war and denied to others? Proletarian writers The victims of the Yemen war number many millions and their condition is appalling, yet their plight is largely ignored by western news media, as is the criminality of the war being waged against them and the ultimate culpability of US and British imperialism for their suffering. https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=https%3A//api.soundcloud.com/tracks/1274910112&color=%23ff5500&inverse=false&auto_play=false&show_user=true With the Saudi/UAE war of aggression against Yemen now having reached its seventh year, it has been revealed that the Saudi/UAE coalition air force has dropp...

Yemen’s quest for self-determination continues unabated

Despite conditions of siege and war, Yemen’s people are finding ways to lay the foundations of a diversified and more self-sufficient economy. After almost eight years of continuous imperialist siege, the Yemeni revolution begun in 2014 is still advancing. Following the popular revolution which overthrew the US-Saudi stooge regime that had dominated Yemen for decades, and replaced it with a patriotic government led by the anti-imperialist Ansarullah resistance movement, the imperialists silently declared total war on the poorest nation in the Arab world. Using Saudi and Emirati military forces for plausible deniability, the Anglo-American imperialist war has killed almost half a million civilians according to the Eye of Humanity Centre for Rights and Development. Millions...

Bernie to push vote on Yemen war powers next week

The expedited measure would end the US role in the conflict and alter Washington’s relationship with Saudi Arabia. By: Ben Armbruster Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) will introduce a war powers resolution next week that would end U.S. support for the Saudi-led war in Yemen, according to reporting by the Intercept today. The move comes just two months after reports emerged that the Biden administration began a process of reevaluating the U.S. relationship with Saudi Arabia after the Gulf kingdom refused to increase oil production amid rising prices due in part to the war in Ukraine.  A UN-brokered ceasefire between the Saudi-led coalition and Houthi rebels in Yemen expired in October but violence between the warring parties has been ...
