Korean defense chiefs sign ‘military pact’ after Kim & Moon adopt denuclearization roadmap

NOVANEWS South Korean President Moon Jae-in and the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un have signed a joint statement following their bilateral talks in Pyongyang. The countries’ defense chiefs have meanwhile signed a separate military pact. As part of the military agreement, the neighbors will halt border drills from November 1, Yonhap reports. South Korean Defense Minister Song Young-moo and North Korea’s No Kwang-chol also agreed to stop military flights in the vicinity of the demarcation line. In addition, the agreement envisions setting up a buffer zone in the Yellow Sea and suspending maritime drills. As a clear sign of mutual trust, the Pyongyang military agreement also calls for the withdrawal of soldiers from the demilitarized zone and disarming the servicemen keeping watch at Panmun...

US Must ‘Show Commitment’ to Peace Talks with North Korea

NOVANEWS     The Trump administration needs to take a page from North Korea’s playbook and show some type of commitment to peace that amounts to more than just suspended war games, Simone Chun, fellow at the Korea Policy Institute and member of the Korean Peace Network, told Sputnik. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in marked their third meeting on Tuesday. Moon’s three-day visit to Pyongyang is expected to cover talks on the North’s continued denuclearization and the rebooting of dialogue between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the US. The pair previously met at the border village of Panmunjom on two different occasions in April and later in May of this year. Chun told Radio Sputnik’s Loud & Clear on Tuesday that the ...

Sea of Tears: The Tragedy of Families Split by the Korean War

NOVANEWS 'How can there be a half-century of separation between brothers and sisters, between parents and children?' by: Simone Chun 77 year-old Park Seong-hwan sits in front of the pictures of family taken in North Korea, in his appartment in Seoul, South Korea on July 14, 2018. (Photo by Woohae Cho/Getty Images) This past July marked the 65th anniversary of the armistice that halted the Korean War. In addition to leaving nearly 5 million dead, injured, or missing, this bloody conflict forcibly separated nearly 10 million Korean families on either side of the 38th parallel. Since the1980s, a mere 20 face-to-face reunions have been held under tightly controlled conditions, with the last such event occurring in 2015. These reunions are infrequent one-time events-...

South Korea’s Moon Steers Toward Inter-Korean Unity While Wind from Washington Blows in His Face

What Would Help the Peace Process in Korea?

NOVANEWS By David William Pear | American Herald Tribune  It looks like peace is breaking out in Korea. The Koreans themselves are moving fast to mend their nation. When paradigm shifts happen they often happen quickly. In just a little over a year the South Korean people demanded the ouster of the corrupt rightwing Park Geun-hye as their president, and a new election replaced her with the liberal human rights lawyer Moon Jae-in. Moon brought in a new era with the overwhelming support of the South Korean people. Kim Jong-un of North Korea responded likewise. Since the beginning of this year the normalization of relations between the North and the South have been moving fast. U.S. diplomats cannot keep up with it. So let us look into the deep roots of the Korean War and what would help the ...

NOVANEWS By Global Research News Global Research   Pro-GMO Activism and Smears Masquerade as Journalism: From Seralini to Jairam Ramesh, Aruna Rodrigues Puts the Record Straight By Colin Todhunter and Aruna Rodrigues, June 17, 2018 Rodrigues accuses Sandhya Ramesh of dubbing anything that is a proper critique of GMOs based on ‘independent’ science (the distinction is important) as the work of ‘anti-GMO’ activists. She argues that a properly researched piece would have entailed weeks of serious research into the various studies carried out by Seralini and his team over the last decade as well as the reappraisal of Bt brinjal (October 2009 to February 2010) ordered by Jairam Ramesh. ‘My life is not your porn’: 30,000 South Corean women protest spy cams

NOVANEWS FILE PHOTO: Young South Korean women take a formal deep bow during a traditional Coming-of-Age Day ceremony to mark adulthood at Namsan hanok village in Seoul on May 21, 2018 © Jung Yeon-je / AFP In the biggest women’s rights march in the country’s history, thousands of female activists swarmed the streets of Seoul, venting their anger at a ‘hidden cam’ porn industry and police bias in investigating sex crimes by men. Some 30,000 women, many of them wearing masks for fear of exposure, marched from Hyehwa Station in South Korean capital of Seoul, to protest what they say is a lackluster response of law enforcement to men spying on unsuspecting female victims in public bathrooms, on crowded trains, buses and in other public places with hidden cameras.
