BARBARIC SAUDIS

NOVANEWS I came back yesterday from a two-day trip to Saudi Arabia. I didn’t blog about it beforehand because I didn’t want to do anything to jeopardize the chances of my getting a visa, which arrived on the morning of the day I left. Now I’m back and I’m suffering from a type of cognitive dissonance — something more like cultural dissonance. I’m having so much difficulty making sense of it that I’ve found myself anxious about trying to describe the two days to my family. Blogging about it is yet more difficult. First, there are so many reasons I distrust my own impressions: I was there for two days. I hung out with Saudis studying the Internet and with Netty foreigners. I saw only the inside of the Marriott, King Saud University, and a coffee shop. I was one of two Americans (as far as I ...

SAUDI WOMEN

NOVANEWS Poets not allowed "A Saudi woman received a death threat last week after she appeared on “Poet of Millions,” Abu Dhabi’s version of the game show “American Idol” — which features aspiring poets instead of singers — and recited a poem attacking clerics for “terrorizing people and preying on everyone seeking peace.”

Authorities say their attention was drawn to his behaviour after a video he made was circulated locally via SMS, and later uploaded to YouTube. In the lighthearted video, the man is in a car, dressed as a Saudi police officer. He is seen dan...

ZIONIST SAUDI ROYAL FAMILY

NOVANEWS There is no better illustration of the depth of the Saudi-Zionist alliance than the Saudi's media disregard of the disturbances in Jerusalem. Just watch Al-Arabiyya TV (the TV station of King Fahd's bother-in-law). As if all is well in the holy land.

SAUDI-ZIONIST CONSPIRCY?

NOVANEWS "Deputy Minister for the Development of the Negev and the Galilee, MK Ayoob Kara (Likud), said Israel had received messages from radical Muslim states with which it does not have diplomatic relations saying they would back any Israeli or US move against Iran. "These are positive, secretive messages which say that they will support any move," Kara said at a cultural event in Beersheba Saturday. "They have conveyed clear messages that they are concerned about the Iranian problem."" (thanks Farah) Posted by As'ad at 9:41 AM
