Stop A Bloodbath in Egypt

NOVANEWS   Dear All, The Egyptian people have been betrayed yet again by Hosni Mubarak, who still refuses to step down. Furious, they have responded in a loud and clear voice: MUBARAK MUST STEP DOWN!!! On the 17th day of growing demonstrations, it’s time for President Obama to echo their demand—loudly and clearly. And time for us to tell Obama and Congress: The U.S. government must stand with the Egyptian people, call for Mubarak to resign and immediately cut off all funds to the Egyptian government until Mubarak leaves. Our CODEPINK delegation in Cairo was privileged to witness this historic uprising. We cried with the mothers of some of the 300 Egyptians who have been killed in this struggle. We expressed our sorrow to the thousands who have been wounded. We brought flowers to the heroes...

Dateline Egypt: The Facebook Generation vs. the 20th Century

NOVANEWS   by Johnny Punish I received an email today reminding me of a few historical facts, with the operative word being “historicial”, that said: No peasantry or proletarian movement has ever sponsored or pulled off a successful “revolution.”  They may have been thrust into the fore, cannon fodder for palace guards, but none of them were ever the driving powers behind the revolutions, which were all of the Middle Classes or competing Elites or Autocrats. Success has always required support and backing from an organized political party or group (Domestic or Foreign, and usually outlawed by the regime they displace) and or the Army.  In most cases, the Army must be tolerant and at least stand aside, if not actually engaged in the overthrow. Whatever the successes of whomever succeeds ...

The Muslim Brotherhood is Kosher

NOVANEWS   by Gilad Atzmon  Ynet reported today that  US Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said during a House Intelligence Committee hearing Thursday that Egypt’s branch of the Muslim Brotherhood movement was “a very heterogeneous group, largely secular, which has eschewed violence and has decried al-Qaeda as a perversion of Islam.” Clapper, who heads the organization commanding 16 American intelligence and investigation agencies, told the committee that the Muslim Brotherhood “have pursued social ends, a betterment of the political order in Egypt, et cetera….. There is no overarching agenda, particularly in pursuit of violence, at least internationally.” Clapper  said that the group fills a vacuum caused by the absence of government services, but added, “It is not neces...

Free And Proud at Last

NOVANEWS   It is so inspiring and invigorating a scene to watch, you don’t have to be Egyptian to feel related to the roaring and jubilant people in Tahrir square, you only have to be alive. By Dr. Ashraf Ezzat / from Alexandria, Egypt   Dr. Ashraf Ezzat at the huge demonstrations in Egypt calling for power to the people What is happening now in Tahrir square is a revolution in the making with people from all around the world watching every minute. People are often used to following and watching live on their TV screens football games, UN meetings, royal weddings, catastrophic quakes and floodings but no one is used to watching a popular revolution unfolds. It’s not an every day event, years and years would go by before any similar uprising could take place. Years and years would go by be...

Reflections on the (Possible) Revolution in Egypt

NOVANEWS   This is big: very big.  I was talking to a friend earlier: this is possibly the biggest strategic shift in the Middle East since the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982.  The beauty of it for dreamers (and its alarm for enemies like Israel) is that it is unpredictable.  The biggest victory is that `Umar Sulaman is out of the picture now.  Israel/US/Saudi Arabia were hoping that he would be the extension of Mubarak until some other clone of Mubarak is found.  That was not meant to be.  Don't get me wrong: US and Saudi Arabia will now rush with bags of gold and cash to influence all members of the military command council.  The beauty of that is that there is no one person: it is a collective leadership (even if this rules for a transitional period) and the momentum of the Egypti...

This year in Egypt, Next year in Palestine

NOVANEWS   Although not fully aware of the rosy glasses he wears, the runaway Zionist ambassador in Egypt is a hopeful man, about whose prophesies one can only say, "may they come true sooner in our times." This is from his rambling commentary on the downfall of his dear friend: As long as we had Zionist Mu-barak, there was no void in our relations with the region. Now we're in big trouble...From a strategic point of view, IsraHell is now facing a hostile situation. It's over, there is no one left to lead the pragmatic, moderate state. ...The next stage is disbanding parliament, as the people won't accept a parliament based on fraud, and holding new elections. Naturally, the opposition will also want to run in these elections and will ask for a longer period of time to gain recognition. ...

Bye Mu-Barak

NOVANEWS   Mubarak is gone. So is Suleiman.   Credit: Matthew Cassel, Justimage See here for more images. What is there to say? The scoundrel is gone. Gaza will hopefully be open soon. Zvi Mazel know what's up: "As long as we had Mubarak, there was no void in our relations with the region. Now we're in big trouble...We may see a series of upheavals in the region now. Mubarak's downfall supports revolutionaries everywhere, from Yemen to Algeria. The question is whether such Middle East will be manageable. What if there are coups in Jordan, Morocco or Saudi Arabia? Only God knows who will take power." Yoel Marcus comments, "stabilizing the region, beginning with Egypt, is first and foremost in our interest." Good luck with that. US Media & Egypt Coverage: Dodging the Real Issues & Fundging the Real Culprits

NOVANEWS   by Sibel Edmonds    $60 Billion US Aid to Egypt=$60 Billion Current Net-worth of Mubarak Family With all eyes and attention on Egypt, the unsavory ‘US Foreign Policy’ has become the topic of choice among the intelligentsia, journalists, and the overly populated US analyst colony. There are scores of analyses out there; thousands of articles, millions of blog threads and unending ‘update’ headlines on TV screens. Yet, at least in ‘popular’ outlets, reality appears to be the missing link. Don’t worry, I am not about to hit you with a long-winded article on Egypt. If you are masochistic enough to actually want my take (pages and pages of history/analyses) you can revisit a few of our pieces on the topic of nefarious US foreign policy practices here, here and here; timeless and e...
