RelatedIs it true that Ursula von der Leyen had a Nazi grandfather, guilty of massacres in Ukraine?

Depending on how you phrase it every German has a Nazi grandfather, more commonly two.

To my knowledge neither of her grandfathers was in the NSDAP and her paternal grandfather was quite old for service (37 years old in 1939) and as an internist likely recalled or taken by the Sanitätsdienst, the medical corps. Such a man would be unlikely to have the opportunity to commit a massacre.

Her maternal grandfather, a man by the name of Stromeyer, is harder to grasp but there is at least no report out on him being a war criminal, ever charged for something like that or even accused.

It seems unlikely h

What are you implying, guilt by association?

That’s what the Nazis would do…Sippenhaft – WikipediaThis article is about the German tradition and practice. For similar practices in other countries or cultures, see Kin punishment . German term for shared family responsibility Sippenhaft or Sippenhaftung ( German: [ˈzɪpənˌhaft(ʊŋ)] , kin liability ) is a German term for the idea that a family or clan shares the responsibility for a crime or act committed by one of its members,

[1]

[2] justifying collective punishment . As a legal principle, it was derived from Germanic law in the Middle Ages , usually in the form of fines and compensations.

It was adopted by Nazi Germany to justify the punishment of kin (relatives, spouse) for the offence of a family member. Punishment often involved imprisonment and execution, and was applied to relatives of the conspirators of the failed 1944 bomb plot to assassinate Hitler . Origins [ edit ] Prior to the adoption of Roman law and Christianity , Sippenhaft was a common legal principle among Germanic peoples, including Anglo-Saxons and Scandinavians

[3] Germanic laws distinguished between two forms of justice for severe crimes such as murder: blood revenge , or extrajudicial killing ; and blood money , pecuniary restitution or fines in lieu of revenge, based on the weregild or “man price” determined by the victim’s wealth and social status

.[4] The principle of Sippenhaft meant that the family or clan of an offender, as well as the offender, could be subject to revenge or could be liable to pay restitution.

[5] Similar principles were common to Celts , Teutons , and Slavs .

[6] Nazi Germany [ edit ] In Nazi Germany, the term was revived to justify the punishment of kin (relatives, spouse) for the offence of a family member. In that form of Sippenhaft , the relatives of persons accused of crimes against the state were held to share the responsibility for those crimes and subject to arrest and sometimes execution. 1943-45: for desertion, treason [ edit ] Stolpersteine of two of the Leiss family in Moers , punished due to the desertion of Wenzeslaus Leiss. Examples of Sippenhaft being used as a threat exist within the Wehrmacht from around 1943. Soldiers accused of having “blood impurities” or soldiers conscripted from outside of Germany also began to have their families threatened and punished with Sippenhaft .

An example is the case of Panzergrenadier Wenzeslaus Leiss, who was accused of desertion on the Eastern Front in December 1942. After the Düsseldorf Gestapo discovered supposed Polish links in the Leiss family, in February 1943 his wife, two-year-old daughter, two brothers, sister and brother-in-law were arrested and executed at Sachsenhausen concentration camp . By 1944, several general and individual directives were ordered within divisions and corps, threatening troops with consequences against their families. Families of 20 July plotters [ edit ] Heinrich Himmler in 1945 Erwin Rommel in 1942 Many people who had committed no crimes were arrested and punished under Sippenhaft decrees introduced afterhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sippenhaft

In fact, both Ursula Von der Leyen (née Albrecht) and het husband Heiko Von der Leyen come from families in the textile trade (cotton and silk respectively) and were born in the 1950s.

Sort of.

Her grandfather, Carl Albrecht, worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and arranged the economic aspects of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact in 1939.

Originally he was a cotton merchant but his dealing with the Soviet Union (and the fact he spoke Russian), made him important to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Now the problem with Nazi Germany was that responsibility were never clearly defined, divide and conquer was Hitler’s motto.

Once Germany invaded the Soviet Union, her grandfather was once again important for the Foreign Ministry as Ukraine was meant to be divided up in colonies betw

Her father was Ernst Albrecht, who was born in 1930. Therefore would have been 15 when Hitler died. Whether or not he ever joined the Hitler youth, I don’t know, but HIS father was a quite liberal minded physician and psychotherapist called Carl Albrecht, I doubt he had anything to do with the Nazis

Let me tell you about the nazis.

In the early part of the 20th century a dictator looked at a map of europe, reached out his hand and declared ‘MINE!’ and where the shadow of his hand fell a terrible war happened. But the dictator was defeated at great cost and slain.

Now in the early part of the 21st century a dictator looked at a map of europe, reached out his hand and declared ‘MINE!’ and where the shadow of his hand fell a terrible war is now happening.

RelatedWhy did Ursula von der Leyen promise the talks about Ukraine membership? Why did she not discuss the subject with the individual EU member states?

To apply for membership of the EU a country must write to the President of the European Council, which is what Ukraine will have done. The President of the Council then informs the member states of the application. The Council then asks the Commission to assess the applicant country’s suitability for candidate status. Depending upon the Commission’s recommendations, the Council may or may not ask the Commission to open negotiations.

You got the tense wrong in the second sentence. It should be the PAST tense. The modern-day Nazis are either pathetic wannabes in Germany, who are regarded as a bunch of moronic losers by nearly everybody and have next to no influence, or the moronic losers that Putin sent to attack the Ukraine in a curious version of Operation Barbarossa in reverse, going west instead of east.

RelatedWhy did Ursula von der Leyen promise the talks about Ukraine membership? Why did she not discuss the subject with the individual EU member states?

She did what she did because it’s her job to do so. As in being actually paid to talk to Zelensky and tell him that Ukraine has EU support on behalf of the member states.

She obviously did this in accordance with the Council, which is where the member states are represented. As for “promising the membership”, please don’t be silly. Procedure for getting the EU membership is well known, transparent and lengthy. All Ursula can do (and all she did) was to encourage Ukraine to send it’s application. Ursula isn’t the one who decides of and when Ukraine will become a member..

Why did Ursula von der Leyen present “the best way” to ensure Ukraine flourishes is to join the EU? Why does Europe have the right answers to Ukraine’s problems?

Ursula von der Crazy is following a unique hybrid ideology, a mix of EU and NATO geopolitics:

  • having lost Britain because of Brexit, the EU badly wants to see new member countries grow
  • Ukraine is the perfect candidate (if it wasn’t for the irritating war there): Ukraine is low-hanging EU fruit, with a couple of hundred billion, the EU can turn Uraine into a functioning member country
